Sunscreen 101

Are you wearing SPF everyday? Are you wearing it even when you’re indoors? Do you reapply every few hours? The answer to all those questions should be yes! The biggest culprit of making our skin age is the sun, so I want to remind everyone to be mindful with religiously wearing and reapplying SPF.

Even while in quarantine and working from home, I’ve been wearing SPF daily. A lot of people don’t think about this, but if you work indoors by a window it’s really important to wear SPF! I know finding the right sunscreen for your skin and routine can be tricky, so here are my recommendations!

For sensitive skin, the Aveeno Sensitive Skin Ultra-Light Mineral Sunscreen is a great affordable option. It’s a lightweight mineral formula that dries sheer with a matte finish so you can layer it under makeup! I also like Kiehl’s Super Fluid UV Defense because it’s great for all skin types (including sensitive skin) and is lightweight, absorbs quickly, and has a matte finish too, If you want to splurge though, then I recommend Estée Lauder’s Perfectionist Pro Multi-Defense UV Fluid – it’s mineral based, oil-free, and won’t clog pores!

Don’t have a lot of time or on the go? For quick and easy reapplication throughout the day, I keep my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Face Mist Sunscreen by my desk to spritz my face with every few hours. It’s light and not oily, so perfect for any skin type! If you want to minimize your routine, then try a mineral powder sunscreen – you can use this in place of your foundation or setting powder/spray. My go-to is Colorescience’s Sunforgettable Mineral Sunscreen because I love that the medium shade matches my skin perfectly and the brush makes application super easy! For a more affordable option, I recommend the Supergoop! (Re)setting 100% Mineral Powder, I also love that it’s vegan and cruelty free!

My skin gets especially dry at certain points in the Summer and when that happens, I switch up my sunscreen to keep my skin quenched. You all love know I LOVE Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost line, well the sunscreen doesn’t disappoint. The formula includes hyalruonic acid so your skin stays hydrated all day long! Drunk Elephant also has a sunscreen that’s good for dry and sensitive skin. The formula is sheer and I love that they’re cruelty free. Another product worth splurging on is Amorepacific’s Moisture Sun Protector. It has all the nourishing botanicals for protection against UV rays that dry skin will love, I can’t recommend it enough!

Sunscreen is something that I personally spend more on. I always want to have some on hand, backups, and of course options depending on how my skin is feeling. Here are 3 that have been worth the splurge for me

Although I wouldn’t recommend anyone cheaping out on getting quality product, there are more affordable options. I really like Neutrogena and Avène, I find that their products have consistent quality. Lastly, I want to remind everyone to use SPF on your lips as well! There’s nothing worse than getting your lips sunburnt 🙁 I like Jack Black’s Moisture Therapy Lip Balm because it comes in a lot of scents and has a great price point.
